Screensavers

"They were originally designed to protect monitors, but new technology makes screen savers unnecessary. Save energy by avoiding the hypnotic graphics, which consume as much power as regular processing. Change your computer's screen saver setting to "blank" or simply turn off the monitor when you walk away from your desk."

Spyware

Having trouble with items that act like viruses but your antivirus program doesn't seem to catch them? You are most likely infected with spyware. The best free utility that I've found for removing these type of infections:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Download, install and run the utility and remove any items that it finds. Reboot your PC and repeat the scan. This should take care of most infections.

"Green" computer tips

* Laptop computers, on average, use 20% of the power that desktop PC's do.
* Turn off your computers when not in use. If leaving for over a day, unplug your computers. PC's still use power even when off if they are plugged in.
* Recycle your old computers and monitors by either donating to charities and schools, or by contacting local recyclers who take electronic waste.
* Confused about Vista? You already have it but don't understand it? Don't have it and want to know if you need it?
* Is the tightening economy preventing you from going out and getting a new PC? Find out what inexpensive things can be done to your old PC to bring it up to speed.
* Have you already decided to get a new PC and want some recommendations?
* Do you have several computers in your house or office and you don't know how to share your connection, your files, or your printers?
* Is your computer slow and unusable because of spyware and viruses?
